A Collection of my Opinions and Thoughts

July 12th, 1999
Wow, 4 months go by fast too.  My new rant has to do with the stupidity of most teenagers nowadays.  If you drink excessively, smoke, or do drugs and you're not a really close friend of mine, don't expect me to be very nice about it towards you.  If college taught me anything, it's that substance abuse is more widespread than I would have guessed, although I thought I had learned that from my senior party which could have been better described as an idiot grouping.  My thoughts are this:   if you're going to drink, you better be of legal age and know your limits, if you're going to smoke you need your head examined, and if you do drugs I hope for your sake they are the more recreational ones and not hard stuff and you better not do them around me.   Alcohol:  It is a toxic liquid obtained from rotting foods, who came up witht he idea to drink this swill?  I can see it now, one day in the past:  "Well George, this food's gone bad and leaving some foul smelling fluid in the bottom of the barrel.   I don't see any water around to clean this up, how's about you just drink it up?   Wow George, you're acting pretty stupid now, I want to act stupid too, save some for me!"   And there we have it.  Don't get me wrong, I can see drinking a glass of wine with a formal dinner, or during a religious ceremony, or something along those lines, but teenage alcohol use these days has nothing to do with anything reasonable and is simply an act of stupidity.  Smoking:  What were you thinking?  "Let me see here, you telling me I can stick some weeds rolled in paper in my mouth, light it on fire, inhale the smoke and it will not only ruin my lungs, but hurt the people around me at the same time plus give an addiction? Let me at it!!!"  Again, simple stupidity.  Drugs:   I'm somewhat lenient on this subject.  What I mean by recreational drugs is marijuana.  From what I've seen and read, the people stay rational and alert if only a little single-minded and content looking.  It's not something I would do or even condone, but I'm not going to hate someone if they practice moderation and keep it away from me.   What ticks me off more than anything else is when someone acts like the average teenager and says something like, "man, i smoked the biggest bong last night and got fucked up beyond belief, it was awesome!"  Come on, get a life, or else keep at it and kill yourself.  If you do any of these things, don't you dare come to me and ever complain about being messed up or anything.  Unless you're a total moron, you knew you shouldn't have ever started, and deserve whatever happens to you for making th choice to do it.   Every action has it's consequences, live with yours.

Wow, 2 months go fast.  Anyway, my new rant is with highway drivers in Indiana.  As it says in many places on this site, I go to college in Indiana, and therefore, drive home to Michigan and back every now and again.  THis last time I came home though, it was crazy.   At one point, an SUV of some type was in the fast lane in front of me.  Meanwhile, I'm catching up to it rather quickly, and I end up right behind it.  I notice there's several teenage looking guys in the Dumbmobile, right before noticing no one is in the slow lane.  So here I am, trying to go fast in the fast lane and being held up by some idiots.  Do they move over?  I don't think so!   They sit there oblivious to the traffic (or lack of) around them.  So off I go, passing them in the slow lane after turning my cuise back on.  Next thing I know, they catch up, their rear bumper get's just beyond my front bumper, and they slow back down...  I'm thinking, "What the Hell?"   So here comes this car in the fast lane behind them, the lady catches right up, and is boxed in because they are now pacing me, so I slow down a little so the SUV can get over and let her by, but they don't, and she ends up passing them on the right like I did earlier.  This is getting really annoying now, so I set the cruise a little faster and leave them behind.  As I look back, they're still sitting in the fast lane, while multiple cars pass them on the right because they won't get over...  So annoying...   I've got another couple I could tell about my 5 hour trips home and back, but I'm tired so they'll have to wait.

Well, my current gripe is with people and their actions on ICQ.   Some people just don't seem to understand the difference between real messages and fake ones.  I've recently sent out a message telling people I'm going to delete them from now on for sending on hoaxes and other idiotic things to me, the reasons being... half of these dumb hoaxes say they read it "straight from ICQ's page", and my thoughts, "Yeah right."  I go to the page, nothing there, ask the person if they really went there, they say no, and I think, "What the hell did you send it on for then?"  As for the ones saying ICQ is going to start charging or ICQ is going to delete your account, or anything along those lines, I say to you, if ICQ wants to tell you anything, they will send out a SYSTEM MESSAGE, yet some people don't understand that either.   Then we have the "hacker" notices.  These are the ones I find the funniest.   Let me clear one thing up, true hackers don't use virii, they are hackers because they hack, they don't infect.   Second, you can only get a virus over ICQ if you're dumb enough to accept an executable file from people and run it.  I've seen many people sending trojans like Back Orifice and NetBus, and I just ignore them.   The first thing I do when I get a notice saying "UIN blah blah is sending viruses, don't add them to your list" I message them and dare them to do something.  The worst they can do is flood me with messages, but hey, it hasn't happened yet.  The original message about this was some poor guy who's friend was just playing a trick, and it got spread to everyone. I say this, if you wouldn't believe a stranger on the street who tells you things, don't believe strangers on ICQ. Use your head, don't spam.
